About the Marshal's Department

The Troup County Marshal's Department serves the citizens of Troup County by enforcing applicable federal, state, and local laws while providing essential court, civil, code enforcement, and animal control services. Established by the Troup County Board of Commissioners in 1990, the department serves approximately 70,000 residents across Troup County's 415 square miles.

The department is comprised of three divisions:

Civil Services

The Civil Services Division is responsible for serving civil process issued by the Civil and Magistrate Courts, including lawsuits, subpoenas, garnishments, dispossessory actions (evictions), bench warrants, and property levies to satisfy court judgments. The division also provides courtroom security for selected hearings, assists with prisoner transportation, and enforces mobile home decal requirements throughout the county.

Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Division works to protect the health, safety, and quality of life of Troup County residents by enforcing applicable county ordinances and responding to code-related concerns within the unincorporated areas of the county.

Animal Control

The Animal Control Division responds to reports of stray animals within the unincorporated areas of Troup County and transports animals to the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter in accordance with the Troup County Leash Ordinance. The division also investigates reports of animal cruelty, enforces state and local rabies vaccination requirements, and responds to incidents involving potential rabies exposure. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Marshal's Department provides security for the Troup County court system, helping ensure the safety of judges, court personnel, jurors, attorneys, and visitors. The department works closely with other County departments and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to support public safety throughout the community.

All sworn members of the Troup County Marshal's Department are certified peace officers through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council and meet all required training and professional standards.
