Special Operations
With more than 600 miles of shoreline along West Point Lake and a large rural service area, the Troup County Fire Department has expanded its emergency response capabilities through specialized Dive and Drone Teams.
Dive Team
Established in 2025, the Troup County Fire Department Dive Team provides specialized rescue and recovery services for incidents occurring in and around West Point Lake and other local waterways. During its inaugural year, the team responded to eight emergency calls.
The Dive Team is comprised of nine certified rescue divers and is equipped with a rescue boat and AquaEye™ sonar technology, enabling rapid location of victims in deep or low-visibility water. Team members are trained to conduct both rescue and recovery operations in challenging aquatic environments.
Drone Team
The Troup County Fire Department also operates two advanced unmanned aerial systems (drones) that enhance situational awareness and improve emergency response. These drones have supported numerous incidents, including structure fires, wildland fires, search and rescue missions, and missing person investigations.
The department currently has three certified drone pilots and continues to expand both its personnel and technological capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the community.
