Troup County Parks and Recreation athletics are designed to teach fundamental skills, promote sportsmanship, and foster teamwork in a fun, low-pressure environment. Teams are volunteer-led-often by parents- who dedicate their time to mentoring young athletes.
Every child who registers within the registration time frame will be placed on a team. 

Sports & Activities

Our leagues are structured by age to provide the right level of challenge and skill development for every player. All age groups are offered in the Spring. All youth leagues are offered in the spring, fall season offers only 7-8 & 9-11 year olds. Practices and games will be played at George Harris Complex.

T-ball (Age 4): A fun introduction to the basics of hitting and fielding.
Coach Pitch (Ages 5-6 & 7-8): Transitioning to a moving ball delivered by coaches to build confidence at the plate. 
Youth Baseball (Ages 9-12): Traditional player-pitch leagues focusing on advanced skills and game strategy.

Step up to the plate with Troup County Parks and Recreation Softball! Our leagues focus on building a strong foundation in softball fundamentals while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. Games and practices will be hosted at Shuford Softball Fields during spring and fall seasons. 

7-8 year old: Coach Pitch allowing hitters to develop confidence and timing. Learning basic defensive positions and how to correctly catch and throw. 
9-11 year old: Features Player Pitch, which introduces the dynamics of live pitching and catching to the game. Introducing more complex concepts such as stealing, bunting, and understanding the infield fly rule.

This “learn-to-play” program is the perfect introduction to the world of sports for our youngest athletes. Focused on fun and fundamentals, this co-ed league provides a high-energy, non-competitive environment where 4-7 year olds boys and girls can stay active. Games and practices will be played  at different complexes Harris Baseball Fields, Shuford Softball Complex, and Tod A. Tentler Sports Complex during the fall season.

4-5 year olds: Focuses on the absolute basics, such as running routes, basic hand-offs, and learning which direction to run on the field. 
6-7 year olds: Begin to develop more coordination, focusing on catching skills, defensive positioning, and the concept of pulling flags to make a “tackle”.
Age 8: Game strategy, including more complex plays, quarterback accuracy, and understanding defensive coverage.

Our girls-only league provides a dynamic, supportive environment for athletes to develop their skills at an accelerated pace. Players dive deeper into specific positions, learning complex route running and defensive coverages. This is a high-intensity football experience with zero contact. Games and practices are played  at William J. Griggs Field or the Tod A. Tentler Sports Complex. This league is hosted in the fall and spring.

Ages 9-10: Basic play to advanced mechanics. The focus is on precision in route running, consistent catching under pressure, and the fundamentals of defensive positioning to effectively pull flags.
Ages 11-12: Emphasizes competitive strategy and specialized roles. Players refine their knowledge of complex offensive plays, learn to read defensive coverages, and develop leadership skills.

Tackle football offers a competitive environment where young athletes between the ages of 8-12 years old, focusing on  building skills and developing the fundamentals needed for future play. Played during the fall at multiple locations Tod A. Tentler, Callaway Stadium, West Point Recreation and Hogansville Recreation. 

8 year olds: Introductory level focuses on proper acclimation to wearing pads and helmets. Players learn the fundamentals of safe tackling techniques, basic blocking stances, and fundamental ball security.
Ages 9-10: Focus on shifting to position-specific skills. Players develop better footwork, learn more complex offensive and defensive formations.
Ages 11-12: Prepares athletes for middle school football. Emphasizes high-level strategy, refined blocking and tackling mechanics, and on-field leadership.

The cheerleading program is a community-based program designed to teach fundamental skills while building confidence and teamwork. Our cheerleaders learn spirited routines to energize the crowds and support our football players. We offer five age-specific teams for participants between the ages of 4 and 12. Can be hosted at different complexes during our fall season. Tod A. Tentler, Callaway Stadium, West Point Recreation or Hogansville Recreation. Cheerleading is held wherever the attached football team is scheduled to practice or play.

Troup County Parks and Recreation Soccer provides a community-based environment where players develop teamwork and sportsmanship through age-specific skill building. Hosted at Tod A Tentler Sports Complex during the spring and fall season. Indoor soccer is offered at Mike Daniel Recreation for 6-7 & 8-9 year olds in the winter.

Ages 4-5: Focuses on the basics of the game, including dribbling and staying active on the field. 
Ages 6-7: Introduces passing and basic game positioning while continuing to build ball control.
Ages 8-9: Enhances defensive and offensive strategies with an emphasis on coordinated team play. 
Ages 10-12: Refines advanced techniques, field vision, and competitive game fundamentals.

Girls Volleyball for ages 11-14 is designed to transition players from basic play to more competitive team dynamics. Focusing on building a solid technical foundation while fostering a love for the game in a supportive community environment. Learning ball control, serving fundamentals, and team communication. Hosted at Mike Daniel Recreation after the middle school season is over in the fall.

Troup County Parks and Recreation Track and Field offers an exciting, high-energy environment for athletes ages 6-14 years old to discover their potential on the track. Our program focuses on personal growth, fitness, and the fundamentals of track for beginners and experienced runners. Practices will be held at the Whitesville Road Track in the spring.

Our recreational basketball program is all about filling in love with the game. We focus on building confidence, making friends, and staying active. That transitions into fundamental basketball skills for growth in the sport. Games are hosted in the winter season at multiple facilities. Make sure to check your locations: Mike Daniel Recreation, Tod A. Tentler, William J. Griggs or Hogansville Recreation.

4-5 years old: At this age, it's all about awareness. We use smaller balls and lower hoops to help them succeed. 
6-7 year olds: Learning the “how to” of the game through structured play.
8 year old development: Real game movements. Balance, Eyes, Elbow and follow through. Stay between the player and the basket. 
9-13 year old: Understanding where to be on the court and how to play as a unit.

Provides competitive and recreational opportunities for residents aged 18 and older. The league is designed to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical activity with the community. Our league is hosted during the summer at Shuford Fields.
